Second, releasing records must actually risk harming that investigation. ICE’s refusal, on its face, suggests both boxes are checked. Around the same time, border czar Tom Homan said on Newsmax that he had asked for Omar’s immigration files to be pulled for his personal review, pointing to long-standing claims that she married her brother to help him gain U.S. residency.

Vance Puts a Name on the Investigation

Vice President Vance went further than Homan, telling reporters the Justice Department is actively investigating Omar for possible immigration fraud. “If we think that there’s a crime, we’re going to prosecute that crime, and that’s something the Department of Justice is looking at right now,” Vance said. That is not a vague hint. That is the sitting vice president naming a federal agency and a potential crime in the same breath.

Omar Fires Back, Calling the Claims Fiction

Omar has not stayed quiet. She told Fox News Digital the entire premise is fake, saying flatly, “That is not something that is happening. That man is delusional”. She also said she was never told about any formal investigation, adding, “There’s nothing to investigate.”

Omar told The Hill she does not even know what investigators would be looking for and predicted they would “absolutely not” find anything incriminating. Her chief of staff, Connor McNutt, called the allegations “a ridiculous lie” and “a desperate attempt to distract” from other political fights facing her office.

A Financial Disclosure Adds a Wrinkle

Separately, Omar’s office quietly amended a financial disclosure after discrepancies surfaced involving her husband’s business holdings. Her team said the original filing overstated his net worth due to an accountant’s error, not fraud. “The Congresswoman is not a millionaire,” the statement read, framing the fix as voluntary and made “as soon as the discrepancy was identified”. Critics see the timing as convenient. Supporters see it as routine cleanup.

Why the Legal Exemption Matters More Than the Noise

None of this proves Omar committed a crime. An ICE record exemption is not an indictment, and a vice president’s comment is not a verdict. But conservatives watching this story have every reason to expect the process to run its course without political interference protecting anyone, elected official or otherwise. If the Justice Department has real evidence, Americans deserve to see where it leads. If it does not, that should come out just as clearly.
