Brooks Files Lawsuit, Denies Allegations

On October 8, country music superstar Garth Brooks filed a complaint in the District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi Northern Division, seeking both compensatory and punitive damages from an assault accuser. Brooks claims he is the victim of a calculated blackmail scheme, asserting that the allegations against him are entirely false.

The lawsuit comes in response to accusations made by Brooks’ former hairstylist and makeup artist, who alleges that the singer assaulted her during a work-related trip to Los Angeles in 2019. Brooks vehemently denies these claims and is seeking a declaratory judgment that the allegations are false, along with damages exceeding $75,000 for emotional distress and defamation.

Alleged Extortion Attempt

In his legal filing, Brooks asserts that the accuser threatened to publish false allegations unless he paid her millions of dollars. The country star claims he has been subjected to threats and demands for money over the past two months. Brooks’ legal team alleges that when he refused to provide salaried employment and medical benefits to the accuser, she threatened to file a lawsuit.

“For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars,” Brooks said in a statement to Us.

Brooks added, “Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of — ugly acts no human should ever do to another.”

Accuser’s Claims and Legal Response

The accuser, who worked with Brooks for approximately 15 years, alleges that the incident occurred during a trip to Los Angeles for a Grammy tribute to Sam Moore. She claims Brooks booked a hotel suite with one bedroom and subsequently attacked her.

“We applaud our client’s courage in moving forward with her complaint against Garth Brooks,” the woman’s attorney, Douglas Wigdor told CBS. “The complaint filed today demonstrates that sexual predators exist not only in corporate America, Hollywood and in the rap and rock and roll industries but also in the world of country music. We are confident that Brooks will be held accountable for his actions and his efforts to silence our client through the filing of a preemptive complaint in Mississippi was nothing other than an act of desperation and attempted intimidation. We encourage others who may have been victimized to contact us as no survivor should suffer in silence.”

The legal team representing the accuser has criticized Brooks for publicly naming their client, accusing him of doing so out of spite and to punish her. They have vowed to seek maximum sanctions against Brooks for this action.

Brooks Addresses the Situation

In a recent Facebook Live session, Brooks briefly addressed the ongoing legal battle, stating, “This thing is on, it’s gonna happen. People are telling me it could be up to two years.” He advised his fans to “take a deep breath” and settle in for what could be a lengthy legal process.

Brooks has expressed trust in the legal system and a desire to continue his music and charitable work despite the ongoing controversy. He has added high-profile lawyer Daniel Petrocelli to his legal team to handle the case.

As this legal battle unfolds, it promises to be a closely watched case in the entertainment industry, potentially lasting up to two years. The outcome could have significant implications for both parties involved and may spark broader discussions about privacy, allegations of misconduct, and the use of legal maneuvers in high-profile cases.
