Convicted Murderer Killed in Maximum-Security Facility

Aymen Terkmani, 31, was discovered severely injured in Lithgow Correctional Centre and later died from the wounds despite efforts from paramedics. Terkmani was serving a minimum of 33 years for the 2015 brutal murder and sexual assault of 16-year-old Mahmoud Hrouk. The attack, deemed as involving “unspeakable violence” by NSW Supreme Court Justice Lucy McCallum, saw Terkmani punished with a maximum term of 45 years in prison.

Aymen Terkmani was allegedly attacked by two inmates using a sharp weapon around 2.45pm on Wednesday. He suffered serious stab wounds to the chest and was airlifted to a hospital but died during the flight. The prison immediately went into lockdown, and a crime scene was established.

The 2015 crime sent shockwaves across Sydney when Mahmoud Hrouk’s body was found by his brother in an abandoned home in Fairfield East. Justice McCallum stated, “The offender subjected the victim to the most brutal and horrific attack, inflicting injuries too numerous to list and too gruesome to describe.”

Prosecutors had initially pushed for Terkmani to receive a life sentence. The perpetrators of the attack on Terkmani in prison, reportedly motivated by his earlier assault on another inmate, have been identified through CCTV footage and are currently in segregation.
