(WatchDogReport.org) – Former President and Republican nominee Donald Trump chose Republican Senator JD Vance to be his running mate on July 15, following months of speculations about who would be his pick for vice president.
On his Truth Social account, Trump made the announcement and said that while all the other candidates were great, he chose Vance because he believed the senator would bring more energy to his ticket. Trump also said that Vance would guarantee that the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement he started a couple of years ago will live on after he retires from public life.
Over the last few years, Vance has been one of the most promising stars among conservatives because of his successful background. Vance is a Marine Corps veteran of the Iraq war, as well as a Silicon Valley venture capitalist who reached massive success in the entertainment industry after writing his memoir called Hillbilly Elegy, which became a famous movie.
Political analysts explained that Trump likely picked Vance as his running mate because he would boost the MAGA brand and is an aggressive politician with great debating skills. One of these was political commentator Ben Shapiro, who said that Trump made an “audacious” decision by choosing Vance, as he described him as a “bulldog.”
Many journalists have said on social media that Vance could deliver the first benefits to the Trump campaign in the next debate between vice presidential nominees. They argued that Vance has shown to be skillful on these debates, unlike Vice President Kamala Harris, whom many believe could end up replacing US President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee if he suspends his campaign.
Despite his good relationship with Trump and the MAGA movement, Vance used to be one of his strongest critics among conservatives, saying that the former president was “reprehensible” and a “cultural heroin” for the United States. However, everything changed when he became Senator in 2023 after Trump backed his Senate race in 2022.
