(WatchDogReport.org) – The Albuquerque Police Department announced that officers had arrested an 11-year-old on June 6 after he terrorized residents for weeks with a shocking number of crimes, including shootings, auto thefts, and burglaries.
The department’s Chief, Harold Medina, said in a press conference that he feels “deeply disappointed” to know that authorities had to detain a preteen for committing such “illegal acts” at a young age. He also told reporters that police officers “had to act,” as the kid’s behavior was becoming more dangerous every day and had already become a threat to his community.
Medina explained that the police department and every single authority in the United States has to address the “toxic mix” he claims social media and guns are creating among teenagers. When asked what should be done about it, the department’s chief said that kids have to face “consequences” for their actions.
The suspect, whose identity wasn’t released because of his young age, is currently facing numerous charges that include conspiracy to perpetrate a fourth-degree felony, criminal damage to private property, and non-resident burglary. Reporters on social media added that the boy is also facing charges of unlawful possession of a gun, aggravated battery, conspiracy, shooting into a dwelling, shooting at a motor vehicle, and aggravated assault with a firearm.
Medina explained that the crime spree started on May 5 when a car was stolen in Albuquerque’s northeastern area, with a local mother reporting a week later that four kids were throwing rocks at her house’s windows. A couple of hours after her report to the police, a 12-year-old girl called 911 and said that a small group of kids, who are known as the “Kia Boyz,” were trying to break into her house and were throwing rocks at her room’s window.
Police officers also had to respond to a commercial burglary on May 17 and received a call from a man on May 29 who said he was shot by four kids who were driving a blue Kia.
