Parents Turn Son Over to Police After Discovering Shocking Crime

(WatchDogReport.org) – A teenager’s parents have turned him into the police over his alleged role in a carjacking filmed in Jackson, Mississippi, which went viral online.

The 14-year-old is said to have participated in the incident that left a local family traumatized in May. Resident Heather Allen dived for cover with one of her sons as the suspects grabbed her daughter from the driver’s seat of their sedan. A gun was pointed at her other son, and the incident was captured in footage from a doorbell camera.

Allen’s young grandchildren had to be freed from the backseat before the attackers left with the vehicle, which was then abandoned two blocks away. Police are still searching for the second suspect as of this writing. In the video footage, gunshots can be heard before the suspects approach the vehicle and demand the mother fetch the keys. Allen revealed that the car was found in a primarily undamaged condition but that she could not retrieve it due to it being held by the police to obtain fingerprints.

Upon discovering their son’s involvement after they saw a media report on the incident, the 14-year-old’s parents took him to the Copiah County Sheriff’s Office.

Before the teen was turned over to law enforcement, no arrests had been made, though police had identified two individuals in connection to the car theft. The Allen family was reportedly terrified after the traumatic event, worried that the thieves could potentially seek revenge for them sharing the doorbell camera footage online.

In a separate incident on June 1 in Jackson, a woman was robbed at gunpoint by thieves who stole her car before driving into her 3-year-old son. The boy was treated for head injuries in hospital and is expected to recover.

The 14-year-old, identified as Jamontae Latrell Kelly, is charged with six counts of aggravated assault as well as armed carjacking. The bond for Kelly is set at $1.75 million.

Allen stated that she has only lived in the area for three weeks and is now keen to leave. She added that she could not sleep, her daughter was in shock, and her son was suffering from anxiety following the attack. A GoFundMe donation page was set up on behalf of the family to allow them to move to a safer area.’
