(WatchDogReport.org) – Former top aide to former President Barack Obama Jim Messina claimed in a December 18 op-ed for Politico that it would be impossible for a “third-party candidate” to win the 2024 presidential election. He even suggested that if the Democratic Party fails to nominate President Joe Biden and picks another candidate, former President Donald Trump will “definitely” win next year.
In his op-ed, Messina explained that a rematch of the 2020 presidential election is “set in stone” and noted that everyone in the Democratic Party must accept the reality and stop thinking that another candidate could beat Trump. The former top aide also took aim at third-party group No Labels, which he said is pushing “a dangerous lie” that only benefits the former Republican president. The group was founded by former Connecticut Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman, who resigned from the Democratic Party and became an independent.
The former advisor of the Obama administration argued that every election result in the last 50 years has shown that third parties in the United States can’t win elections in their “own right,” but can exercise influence in the eventual winner. The CEO of the Messina Group even suggested that No Labels could be deliberately pushing for another candidate to “throw the election” to the conservative leader.
Messina noted that any comment or argument that a third party is what the United States needs to prevent Trump from returning to the White House in 2024 “is a lie” that people with “ulterior motives” are spreading. He also claimed that everyone at No Labels is aware of it, saying they should be honest with every American voter and “cut the crap” as soon as possible.
The former Obama aide concluded his op-ed by saying that any well-funded third-party candidate that competes in the 2024 presidential election will be a “disaster” for the United States and will put the country on the path to a dictatorship.
