Mother Facing Manslaughter Charges After Death of 8-Year-Old Daughter

(WatchDogReport.org) – A North Carolina woman is currently facing manslaughter charges after authorities revealed that she was responsible for the death of her 8-year-old daughter.

The mother allegedly left her little girl inside her vehicle during the heatwave. In a press release, police said that the 36-year-old mother, Ashlee Stallings, was held on a $250,000 bond at the Mecklenburg Detention Facility in Charlotte on child neglect and involuntary manslaughter charges. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department also detailed that she left her daughter inside the car while she was working at her job at Amazon.

Police records showed that Stallings confessed to police officers that she had knowingly left her child in the vehicle, even when she knew that the outside temperature was nearly 100 degrees, so she could attend her job. The 36-year-old mother also told authorities that she didn’t want her daughter to die. While she knew it wasn’t a responsible decision to leave her daughter in the car, she left the air on after parking her car outside the Amazon Fulfillment Center. Stallings added that she believes that her daughter shut the air off at some point because she probably felt uncomfortable with the low temperature inside the vehicle.

The mother explained that she left her daughter alone inside the car for only 90 minutes before getting back to her and noticing that her daughter was lying motionless on the car’s floor. The police said they arrived at the scene at 6:30 pm and found Stallings’ daughter unresponsive. They immediately took her to a hospital nearby, where she was declared dead.

In a statement, an Amazon spokesperson said that the incident was a tragedy that should’ve never happened. The spokesperson added that the company was experiencing a “difficult time” because of the 8-year-old girl’s death, as it said that Stallings committed a grave mistake. The retail giant also explained that it’s currently supporting each of their employees and making available every counseling resource.

Amazon’s spokesperson explained that the company is working with the department on its investigation.
