(WatchDogReport.org) – The Republican Mayor of Taunton, Massachusetts, Shaunna O’Connell, was arrested on July 19 for allegedly hitting her husband with a crowbar and biting him. Local reporters revealed that the 54-year-old conservative leader is currently facing charges that stem from the violent dispute with her husband, Ted O’Connell, which happened inside their house at 8:20 pm.
They added that he was the one who called the cops, who arrived a couple of minutes later. Ted O’Connell told them that he and his wife were having a heated argument about some marital issues when she suddenly started to act violently against him. Once they got out of the court, the couple were seen holding hands, with Ted O’Connell apologizing for the situation. She pleaded not guilty to various charges of battery and assault with a dangerous weapon.
While the mayor was silent, her spouse called for an improvised press conference where he took out a statement and said that what happened was a “huge mistake” that the people of Taunton didn’t deserve. He also said he shouldn’t have called the cops.
The police report of the case revealed that the mayor’s husband said during their argument that she bit him on the forearm and eventually grabbed a crowbar and hit him on his right knuckle with it. Authorities also said that a sergeant at the scene noticed that Ted O’Connell had an “open wound” that seemed to be the product of a strong bite, as well as numerous open wounds on his knuckles. The police report showed that the conservative leader stood on the hood of her husband’s vehicle when he tried to leave. Officers at the scene detailed that the mayor’s husband was “very concerned” for her.
Journalists said that Shauna O’Connell told the police once they arrived at their house that she reacted violently against her spouse because he was being “verbally abusive” against her. She also told officers she had “no idea” of how her spouse got the injuries on his knuckles and forearm.
