China and Russia Clap Back At NATO, Issue Threats

(WatchDogReport.org) – The regimes of Russia and China recently threatened NATO against a “provoking confrontation” over the international bloc’s claims that Beijing has been holding a crucial role in the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine. NATO made the remarks in a declaration at a summit in Washington, DC, where the bloc added that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s large-scale support and “no limits partnership” with his counterpart Vladimir Putin were concerning.

In response to these comments, Russia’s former president Dmitry Medvedev said on Telegram that the summit’s promise of allowing Ukraine to be part of the bloc would cause the “disappearance” of the European nation and NATO itself. Meanwhile, China’s spokesperson to the European Union said that NATO was hyping the “China threat” and was also provoking a rivalry and confrontation that would destabilize world peace.

During a press conference in Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the Russian state was planning to execute some “response measures” as soon as possible to contain the “threat” delivered by NATO. Peskov also told reporters that with NATO’s declaration, the Kremlin now officially considers the military alliance to be fully involved in the “armed conflict in Ukraine.”

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine started in February 2022, the Chinese regime has refused to condemn the Kremlin and even published a paper where they called for a “settlement” to what they also referred to as an “armed conflict.” Most of the Western nations criticized the paper as many of their leaders claimed that China was essentially enabling the Kremlin to retain most of the territory it seized in Ukraine since 2014, when it invaded the Donbas region.

Geopolitical experts have said that the strategic alliance between Moscow and Beijing has been getting closer since the invasion, with the Chinese regime presenting itself as neutral. However, some experts like Ian Bremmer or Nacho Montes have said that China has been crucial to Russia’s isolated economy as it maintained its trade relationship during the war.
