Biden Tries to Walk Back Violent Rhetoric Despite Evidence

(WatchDogReport.org) – US President Joe Biden claimed on July 14 that he hasn’t engaged in any violent rhetoric against former President and Republican nominee Donald Trump following the assassination attempt he survived during a campaign rally.

During an interview with CNBC, the commander-in-chief defended the language he has used to refer to Trump and his Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement. He claimed that he never wanted any violence to occur and even said that the person who has shown the most violent political rhetoric over the last few years has been Trump himself.

Despite President Biden’s comments, many journalists have said he has indeed shown a very violent and polarizing rhetoric against the Republican leader and even American conservatives. One of the most controversial events took place during a donors’ private call when the commander-in-chief said that it was the moment to put the former president “in a bullseye.”

When asked about those comments during the interview, President Biden recognized that he had made a “mistake” by using those words, as they could be misinterpreted. He clarified that he meant “focusing” on what Trump does politically and “the lies” he says publicly.

While the president apologized for those words, the truth is that he has made numerous incendiary remarks about the former president over the last four years. One of these took place a day before the assassination attempt against Trump when the liberal leader said that all Americans should remember that the Republican nominee was a “threat” to the nation and its democracy.

President Biden also said on June 28 that Trump was one of the biggest threats that the country’s “freedom” has ever faced and that the Republican leader was a threat to “everything” the United States stands for. The comments were so incendiary that some journalists asked White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre during a press conference if the president wasn’t going too far with those remarks. Jean-Pierre responded that President Biden wouldn’t stop calling the former president a threat.
