(WatchDogReport.org) – Melania Trump has released a statement following the attempted assassination of her husband, former President Donald Trump, calling for the mending of political divisions. Melania declared that “political games” were inferior to love and called the gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, a “monster.” Crooks was shot dead by the Secret Service in the incident after he opened fire.
Melania praised her husband’s “human side” – his humor, his love of music, and his ingenuity – and lamented that it had become “buried” beneath the “political machine.” She blamed the political climate for the shooter viewing Trump as “inhuman”, and stressed that all people fundamentally seek to help each other. One commenter on X who shared the statement said that, in the rare event Melania made such a public statement, it was as if she were “talking through an orb.”
Melania has avoided getting involved with her husband’s campaign trail leading up to November’s presidential election, and likewise avoided the public eye during his legal battles. Following the shooting, however, which left one dead and another two injured, she said she realized that she and her son Barron were on the verge of “devastating change.” She thanked law enforcement officials and secret service agents who put their lives in danger to protect the former president.
After the attempt on his life, Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform that Independent candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr should receive Secret Service protection given the tragic history of the Kennedy family. As Trump reportedly seeks the endorsement of Kennedy, who has himself called for a more moderate and healing approach to US politics, President Joe Biden has since confirmed that RFK Jr will receive Secret Service protection.
Both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party received accusations that their partisan rhetoric enabled violent and extremist behavior. Some Republicans outright accused Biden of “sending the order,” as the Secret Service was blasted by some commentators and eyewitness observers for allegedly being slow to react to reported sightings of a gunman on the rooftop.
Biden has stressed that violence is not the answer and called on America to “cool it down.” Biden has been criticized for saying in private that a “bullseye” will be put on Trump, and along with other Democrats, has long claimed the former president is a threat to democracy.
