Democratic Rep Announces Cancer Diagnosis

(WatchDogReport.org) – California Democratic Representative John Garamendi recently revealed that he was diagnosed with blood cancer and has already started treatment for it.

In a statement, the 79-year-old congressman said doctors determined he had Multiple Myeloma following some symptoms he was presenting over the last few weeks. Garamendi explained that, fortunately, doctors told him the cancer was totally “treatable” as it was still in its early stages.

The liberal leader said that he started the chemo-immunotherapy for the cancer during morning hours in Sacramento, California, at the Kaiser Oncology clinic. He added he hoped that with the health of his staff, as well as his family and doctors, he would get through cancer as soon as possible and keep working in Congress to serve his constituents while advancing the “American democracy.”

Garamendi also had some words for US President Joe Biden. He said he was grateful that the commander-in-chief started the Cancer Moonshot back in the 1980s, as well as his state’s efforts to tax cigarettes and work on stem cells. He said that both measures have reduced cancer diagnoses in California and improved therapies for everyone dealing with the disease in the state.

The Democratic congressman said that while he would like to keep traveling to Washington, DC, such action would be limited for the couple of months that the treatment will last, as chemotherapy will weaken his immune system. He detailed that any type of virus, including a simple flu, could do a lot of damage to him in that state.

The liberal leader ended his statement by saying that he’s confident that the treatments he will go through will allow him to get rid of cancer in less than expected and that he would go back to Congress and keep working for many years.

Garamendi, who has been a congressman since 2009, received praise and support on social media from many political figures from both parties, who wished him well.
