Sickening Discovery Made Within North Korea’s Trash Balloons

(WatchDogReport.org) – Officials in Seoul, South Korea, have reported that some of the trash bags sent over the border from North Korea using balloons have contained parasites. More than 1,000 trash-carrying balloons have been sent over the border by Pyongyang in an act of retaliation against Seoul’s delivery of propaganda leaflets across the border. Over 300,000 leaflets carried by balloons were dumped on North Korea by South Korea, in addition to 5,000 USB sticks containing South Korean TV series and pop music.

Earlier in June, Pyongyang announced that it would halt the deliveries but threatened to continue them if the paper litter caused by the propaganda flyers did not cease. The announcement followed South Korea’s threats to resume propaganda broadcasts across the demilitarized zone using loudspeakers after the broadcasts ended following the signing of a military agreement in 2018.

North Korea’s vice defense minister, Kim Kang Il, stated that the garbage deliveries were intended to show South Koreans how North Koreans felt. Pyongyang dismissed suggestions that the agreement to cease the balloon deliveries was in response to South Korea’s threats, claiming that the deliveries had fulfilled their intended purpose.

South Korean authorities warned members of the public not to approach or touch the garbage bags, and concerns were raised that they could contain animal feces in addition to garbage. Multiple parasites, such as threadworms, whipworms, and roundworms, were discovered in the contents of some bags. The parasites typically originate in human excrement.

The discovery of the parasites in the trash bags follows another wave of trash deliveries sent across the border in mid-June. North Korea resumed the deliveries after Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, warned the South that they could continue if Seoul’s propaganda deliveries did not cease.

Kim Yo Jong blasted South Korea for the deliveries of flyers and USB sticks and claimed the regime was burdening its northern neighbor with a “new environmental crisis.”
