(WatchDogReport.org) – Veteran Republican political adviser and CNN political commentator Alice Stewart has died suddenly aged 58.
Stewart was discovered in a neighborhood in northern Virginia early in the morning on May 18. According to law enforcement officials, who do not suspect foul play, the commentator died from a medical emergency. The network’s CEO, Mark Thompson, described Stewart as a “very dear friend” to all her colleagues. He praised her “unwavering kindness” and said she brought an “incomparable spark” to the network’s political coverage.
As an adviser, she worked as a communications director on the campaigns of several presidential hopefuls. These included former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee in both 2008 and 2016, Senator Rick Santorum and Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann in 2012, and Texas Senator Ted Cruz in 2016.
Stewart took fitness seriously and was an avid runner in her free time. The commentator regularly posted photographs from her races on social media and ran the New York City Marathon in November 2023. An Atlanta native, Stewart had an extensive career as an anchor and reporter before her work as a political adviser and commentator. She previously worked in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Savannah, Georgia. She also was an associate producer in her hometown. Stewart previously served in Arkansas as deputy secretary of state as well.
During her days with CNN during the Trump administration, she was candid regarding her role as a conservative commentator. She acknowledged the Never-Trumpers in the Republican party but still supported the president while criticizing his “demeanor,” promising to call out the former president when she felt it was warranted.
Widely respected and mourned by her peers and colleagues, the commentator was described by Fox News’ Kayleigh McEnany as a “faith-filled woman of God” who will be missed. McEnany sent her prayers to Stewart’s family.
