(WatchDogReport.org) – Lara Trump announced on February 28 her candidacy for co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), which many believe could boost former President Donald Trump’s influence in the Republican Party. Her official announcement occurred after the current RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel surprised everyone by announcing her resignation on March 8, right after the Super Tuesday primaries.
Lara Trump has been considered one of the most loyal supporters of the former commander-in-chief, which some media outlets reported was the main reason why Trump supported her in taking over such a key role at the RNC. She revealed her candidacy to committee members in a letter, where she was “proud” of receiving the official endorsement of her father-in-law for such an important role. Trump added she expects to receive their votes over the next few days.
In addition to his daughter-in-law, the former commander-in-chief has endorsed senior adviser Chris LaCivita to be the RNC’s chief operating officer, and North Carolina Republican Chair Michael Whatley to replace McDaniel as RNC chair.
In numerous appearances, Lara Trump has expressed her goal of turbocharging the RNC, which has been struggling to keep up with the Democratic National Committee’s fundraising numbers. At a campaign rally, she claimed that the RNC needed to “legally ballot harvest” in every single place they can. Trump added that every single dollar that the RNC receives must eventually ensure that the former president ends up winning the 2024 presidential election, expand the GOP majority in Congress, and flip the Senate from Democrats’ control.
McDaniel announced on February 26 that she was going to step down, as it was “traditional” for any presidential candidate to make some changes. In a statement, she said that it was not only an honor but also a “privilege” to serve as the chair of the RNC for seven years, helping the GOP to grow as a party and electing Republicans all around the country. She also said she decided to resign to allow the GOP nominee to select the chair “of their choosing.”
