Dem Candidate Claims Age Restrictions Should be Discussed For All Elected Officials

(WatchDogReport.org) – California Democrat candidate for the Senate, Katie Porter, has voiced her support for addressing age limitations for all elected politicians. President Biden (81) and former President Trump (77) are too elderly to seek reelection, according to Porter, who commented during a Senate debate in California on February 11.

She stated that politics needs seasoned veterans and fresh faces like herself who have just served five years in Congress. During the discussion Inside California Politics conducted, the House Democrat also expressed her approval of the Biden administration.

In addition to Porter, Republican Steve Garvey was present, along with fellow Democrats Barbara Lee and Adam Schiff. They’re all trying to fill the Democrat seat left vacant by the late Dianne Feinstein. Senator Laphonza Butler (D) had already stated her intention not to run in the crowded 2024 election, but she was selected to stand for the state by Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Before her death at 90, Feinstein’s age was the subject of much speculation. In Feinstein’s last years on the job, her competence in the role was often questioned.

Without regard to party membership, the top two finishers in California’s open primary on March 5 will advance to the general election. Based on the most recent surveys, Schiff is in the lead. CA Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D) and The Los Angeles Times also backs him.

On Monday, Porter attacked Schiff on the issue of age restrictions. On the other hand, Schiff lauded Biden and referred to Trump as proof that certain individuals are unqualified to hold public office regardless of age.

At the age of 83, House Democrat leader and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California has declared her candidacy for re-election to a 19th term in Congress, according to a report. Democrat New Jersey senator Bill Pascrell Jr. and Democrat Washington, DC, nonvoting delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton are 86 years old. Harold Rogers, a Republican from Kentucky, and Maxine Waters, a Democrat from California, are both 85 years old. Steny Hoyer, a Democrat from Maryland, is 84 years old. None of these lawmakers have hinted about retirement.
