(WatchDogReport.org) – At a news conference on Thursday, February 8, President Biden angrily rejected a special counsel report that had been critical of his memory as he later confused the presidents of Egypt and Mexico.
Biden strongly disagreed with the findings of special counsel Robert Hur, who had characterized him as a well-meaning old man who had trouble recollecting events.
Right on cue, after saying his memory was good, Biden made an error when discussing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi the “president of Mexico.” While discussing Gaza, he said President Sisi of Mexico was hesitant to allow humanitarian supplies to enter the country, but he talked with him and managed to persuade him to open the gate.
A video of the remark went viral on social media, and Republicans used it to illustrate that Biden has diminished cognition.
The more significant point that Biden had delivered passionate and reasonable statements was ignored by critics and reporters, according to Biden’s allies, who were eager to deflect attention away from the blunder and onto other points.
At a fundraiser in New York on Wednesday, Biden told a tale about his first trip to a Group of Seven (G7) summit after becoming president in 2020, where he proclaimed “America’s back.” However, he said that German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who was in office from 1982 until 1988 and died in 2017, was present at the summit. Angela Merkel was serving as chancellor of Germany.
Biden had made the same mistake twice before, the first time at a campaign event in Nevada on Sunday when relating the same narrative about his G7 meeting with international leaders. However, Biden erred on that occasion by referring to François Mitterrand as France’s president rather than Emmanuel Macron.
After leading France from 1981 to 1995, Mitterrand stepped down as president in 1996. In 2017, Macron took office.
