(WatchDogReport.org) – Former mixed martial arts fighter and star of “The Mandalorian,” Gina Carano, sued Disney and Lucasfilm on February 6. Her grievances center on allegations of discrimination and unlawful termination.
Carano said in her federal lawsuit filed in a California court that her firing was due to her conservative social media posts. Carano made a somewhat controversial social media post in 2021, and Lucasfilm promptly announced her firing from “The Mandalorian.”
The actress drew parallels between historical events and contemporary political debates in her posts. Her conservative stances on several issues, like the recent worldwide health crisis and election integrity, have caused controversy and led to her ousting from UTA, her talent agency.
Musk provided the financial backing for Carano’s case. Joe Benarroch, X’s VP of commercial operations, emphasized the company’s support for free expression. He said that Gina Carano could pursue redress for her right to free expression with this financial backing.
X users who have been the target of workplace harassment or retaliation because of their activities on the site will receive financial help, as Musk promised last year. Musk has stated his aim to hold company boards of directors responsible and has made it plain that there would be no cost caps.
Carano claims in her complaint that Disney and Lucasfilm harassed and slandered her because she did not share their political and social views, especially on matters of social justice. Carano asserts her right to a fair trial by citing examples of her male co-stars’ insulting social media remarks. Pedro Pascal’s 2017 tweet, in which he likened Donald Trump to Hitler, is one such case.
Coercive behavior by Disney, which included being forced to meet with LGBTQ+ advocacy groups and issuing a public apology, is mentioned in the lawsuit. Her departure from “The Mandalorian” and other Star Wars endeavors followed her refusal to comply with these requests.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, no fan of Disney, raised the concept of holding companies responsible for their woke positions as a central theme during his failed presidential campaign.
