(WatchDogReport.org) – Kamar De Los Reyes, who became one of the most popular soap opera stars after his portrayal of Antonio Vegas in One Life to Live, died of cancer in Los Angeles, California, on December 24. The actor, who was considered one of the most versatile artists in the industry, died at the age of 56.
In addition to his acting skills, he was also known for voicing villain Raoul Menendez in the successful video game franchise Call of Duty. According to a New York Times report, De Los Reyes’ performance in the video game was outstanding, to the point that Menendez eventually became one of the greatest villains not only in the history of the franchise but also of video games.
During an interview with Variety, his wife’s publicist said that De Los Reyes was in the middle of filming many other episodes for the sports drama All American. The Times reported De Los Reyes had shot some roles in the upcoming series Washington Black and Daredevil: Born Again.
The popular soap opera star was born in Puerto Rico’s capital city of San Juan. His parents emigrated from Cuba, after escaping the communist regime of Fidel Castro. De Los Reyes was raised in Las Vegas and eventually moved to Los Angeles after finishing high school to try luck in Hollywood. Different reports pointed out he played Pedro Quinn in the Broadway play Blade to the Heat in his “first big break.”
Of that performance, theater critic David Richards wrote in the New York Times that De Los Reyes not only showed extraordinary acting skills but also managed to convey the depth of Quinn’s torment. Richards added that the Puerto Rican actor was “spectral” in repose and like a “short circuit” in the ring. When concluding the article, the theater critic explained that his final silent scream of triumph was “spine-tingler.”
De Los Reyes is survived by his parents, two sisters, two brothers, three sons, and his wife, Sherri Saum.
