(WatchDogReport.org) – Seneca Foods Corporation has put out a statement recalling turkey gravy made by Hy-Vee that’s in the wrong jar. The issue is that it contains beef gravy instead and may also contain soy, which isn’t listed on the label. People with soy allergies might get really sick from it.
The recall only affects this Hy-Vee Turkey Gravy sold at Hy-Vee. So, if you bought this gravy there, it might not be the turkey you thought. There haven’t been any sickness reports linked to it yet.
Hy-Vee mentioned, “It’s just less than 1% of this gravy sold in our stores.”
This mix-up is because the labels don’t match the gravy inside. The beef gravy with soy isn’t mentioned on the turkey gravy label. So, if you’re allergic to soy, don’t eat this misplaced beef gravy pretending to be turkey gravy.
Check your gravy’s label. If it’s the 12 oz Hy-Vee Turkey Gravy with the UPC 75450-03608 and the lot code A3CG162M A3CG192M, it might be the mixed-up one.
Photos of the label and lot code are on the FDA’s site. If your gravy looks dark brown, not like the normal sandy tan color, you might have the wrong one.
Due to the labeling error, Hy-Vee’s Turkey Gravy label lacks a soy allergen warning. Consuming the gravy can trigger severe or life-threatening allergic reactions in individuals with soy allergies or sensitivities. Hence, those affected by soy allergies or sensitivities should refrain from consuming the gravy.
Yet, if you possess the gravy and lack soy allergies or sensitivities, there’s no inherent issue with the gravy except that it’s beef gravy rather than turkey. No adverse reactions will arise from consuming it, but you’re eligible for a refund, especially if you aimed to buy the original product.
Seneca Foods hasn’t heard about anyone getting sick from this gravy. Other Hy-Vee jarred gravies aren’t part of this recall. If you’re worried, call Seneca Foods Consumer Affairs at 1-800-872-1110.
