(WatchDogReport.org) According to a Washington Post November 27 report, various sources revealed that donations to the Republican National Committee (RNC) reached an eight-year low. The liberal newspaper pointed out that the diminished donations are raising concerns about whether or not the leadership of the RNC is properly aligned with the Republican Party’s grassroots to counter President Joe Biden.
Speaking under condition of anonymity, ten people familiar with the matter told the newspaper that small and big donors are currently refusing to give the same amount of money to the RNC they used to. As reported by the Post, the RNC had $9.1 million in cash as of October 30, representing the lowest amount for the conservative organization in a Federal Election Commission report since 2015.
The newspaper added that the RNC had $61 million in 2019 when former President Donald Trump was still in the White House and was organizing his campaign for the 2020 presidential election. Moreover, the Post pointed out that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) reportedly has $17.7 million as of October 30, which is nearly twice as much as the Republican Party now has.
RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told the newspaper she believes there are currently more donors that are fully committed to their candidates and will “be there” when the nominee “is finally set.” She said similar situations happened in the past and noted that donors are “solidly” in their candidates’ camps. McDaniel added there’s nothing “unusual about this,” as “we will merge” when time is needed to “win” the White House.
Despite McDaniel’s words, the Post noted some Republicans said her claims of normalcy in the RNC were wrong. Speaking anonymously, some GOP leaders told the newspaper there’s a disconnect between many conservatives and McDaniel, and some have even called for her to step down.
The Post pointed out that the disconnect was shown during the November 8 GOP debate, when conservative entrepreneur and Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy blasted McDaniel in public. He said that the Republican Party has lost in 2022, 2020, and 2018 since she became the RNC’s chairwoman in 2017.
