Ted Cruz Responds After Being Accused of

(WatchDogReport.org) – Although the lawmakers can get heated sometimes, generally they try to avoid personal insults while speaking on the House or Senate floors. Unfortunately, one Democratic lawmaker forgot her manners recently and insulted Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX). However, he did not take the attack lying down.

On Wednesday, June 23, a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing turned hostile when Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) attacked Cruz. The argument came after Cruz asked a judicial nominee if they were refusing to “commit to originalism” because, if they did, it would result in outcomes Mazie doesn’t support. Originalism is a legal philosophy that states the Constitution should be interpreted as the Founders intended, instead of changing with the country. The Democratic senator accused her Republican colleague of “misstat[ing]” what she said and “mansplaining.”

Cruz then responded to Mazie and demanded to know what he’d said that she believed was a mischaracterization. All the while, Freshman Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) was banging his gavel and demanding order.

Mazie responded with another insult, claiming Cruz always has to have the last word. She gave a confusing response about what she believed he was mischaracterizing, then refused to speak again. Cruz, having made his point, moved on.
