President Trump Urged to Pardon Julian Assange

( – As President Donald Trump’s first term winds down, everyone is on pardon watch. One of the people hoping to get a pardon is Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange. And now, a group of prominent people are supporting his request.

According to the Gateway Pundit, a group of politicians, celebrities, Trump supporters, and others sent him a letter calling on the commander-in-chief to pardon Assange. They said he could put a “defining stamp” on his “legacy” for saving “First Amendment protections for all Americans” if he gives Assange leniency.

The group asking Trump to pardon Assange includes former presidents of Paraguay, Brazil, and other countries. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), GOP Senator Rand Paul’s Chief Strategist Doug Stafford, four Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, and many others are behind the call.

Assange is facing more than a dozen federal charges for publishing leaked government documents on his website. Prosecutors allege he worked with Whistleblower Chelsea Manning, whose sentence was commuted by former President Barack Obama in 2017. The Wikileaks founder is facing 175 years in prison. He’s currently imprisoned in the UK and fighting extradition to the US.
