(WatchDogReport.org) – Every year, the NYC Pride Parade draws thousands of people from all walks of life. The parade is one that’s supposed to celebrate inclusiveness and welcome all members of the LGBTQ community. Unfortunately, parade organizers have now ruined that by banning a group of LGBT people because of their jobs.
On May 15, NYC Pride announced they have banned “corrections and law enforcement exhibitors at NYC Pride events until 2025.” About 200 law enforcement officers participate in the parade annually, including members of the Gay Officers Action League (GOAL). The advocacy group for LGBT officers called the decision “shameful” and “dehumanizing.”
For decades #LGBTQ groups were discriminated against when they were prohibited from marching #StPatricksDay parades.
Today @NYCPrideMarch is discriminating against @GOALny because of their job were they are still targets of #Hate @NYCPride is a #Hypocrite and should be ashamed! pic.twitter.com/7x136hW135

The organizers also said they’ll be bringing in more “community-based security and first responders” to reduce the number of NYPD officers who have to work security at the event.
That decision raises security concerns. It’s no secret that large-scale events like this can be targets for bad actors. Reducing the number of officers who are there to secure it just seems like a terrible idea.
Now, the event that’s supposed to celebrate the LGBT community is being used to discriminate against police officers who are part of that very community. GOAL is right; it’s shameful.
