New York Road Runners CEO Steps Down Amid Allegations

(WatchDogReport.org) – The New York Marathon is one of the biggest running events in the country every year. And the guy who heads the organization that puts the race on just stepped down after disturbing allegations came to light.

On November 30, the New York Road Runners (NYRR) announced a leadership change within the organization. CEO Michael Capiraso stepped down after a decade of being with the group.

The decision to change leadership came after a group called RebuildNYRR called for Capiraso to step down for allowing “racism, bias, and bullying” to run rampant in the organization. There were also reports of sexism within the organization during his tenure.

In October, Capiraso resisted the calls for him to step down, saying he was “committed to ensuring” employees felt included, respected, and appreciated. However, it seems like the pressure was too great and now he’s out. NYRR thanked him for his service and announced Kerin Hempel, a former executive with the group, will serve as interim CEO until the organization names a permanent replacement.
