Nancy Pelosi May Not Stay in Power After New Report Suggests Unpopularity

(WatchDogReport.org) – Republicans are hoping to take power in the 2022 midterms and they’re on track to make that happen. However, if the GOP doesn’t win, the top congressional Democrats could lose their power anyway.

Punchbowl News reportedly surveyed Democratic staffers on Capitol Hill to find out how they feel about Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Only 20% of those polled said they want the leaders to retain their roles if the Left stays in power next term. Meanwhile, 62% told the news outlet that leadership should change no matter what happens. Pelosi hasn’t even announced whether she plans to run for reelection. At 81, she’s one of the oldest members of Congress.

By comparison, only 28% of Republicans think their leaders, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), should be replaced in the next year.

If Democrats remain in power, it’s unclear who would replace Pelosi. Many Progressives want the party to move farther to the Left and would like to put a progressive forward. But, the establishment has shown it’s not ready to release its grip on the party.

While the midterms are less than a year away, the country won’t find out who plans to lead America until the following January when the parties vote for their leaders.
