Judge Rules Governor Newsom Overstepped His Authority in Mail-In Ballot Mandate

(WatchDogReport.org) – On May 8, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) issued an executive order mandating mail-in ballots to be sent to every registered voter. Republicans quickly sued, calling it “radical.” A judge has finally issued a ruling in the case.

On Friday, November 13, Judge Sarah Heckman said Governor Newsom overstepped his authority by issuing the universal mail-in ballot order. The directive changed the existing law, but the Democrat isn’t legally able to do that without the legislature’s input. Heckman explained Newsom’s actions undermined “the authority and independence” of the other branches of government.

The ruling won’t have any impact on the ballots that were cast in the November 3 election. But, the governor has now been put on notice: California isn’t ruled by one man, but many men. Democrats are all too often willing to skirt the rules to get what they want. It’s disturbing, especially so when it impacts American democracy.
