Citizens Are Leaving Liberal Cities in Droves

(WatchDogReport.org) – California and New York have the strictest COVID-19 restrictions. Both states are also known for their extremely high rents. Perhaps that’s why people are fleeing two of the most liberal cities in both of those states: New York City and San Francisco.

According to a March 4 report by the California Policy Lab (CPL), residents of San Francisco are fleeing the city for other parts of the state. The study found that 61.3% more people left the city in the last quarter of 2020 than they did during the same period of time in 2019. NYC has also been experiencing a mass exodus of residents over the past couple of years. That led to an estimated $34-billion decrease in tax revenue in the Big Apple.

Residents aren’t just fleeing the cities; they’re also leaving the Leftist states for friendlier, Republican states like Texas, Florida, and other places. Rather than getting the hint and changing the regulations and tax laws forcing people to leave, it seems the states are doubling down. It’ll be interesting to see how that impacts California and New York over the course of the next decade.
