Beto O'Rourke Raises Whopping $600,000

( – Republicans in Texas want to pass election security laws to ensure every legal vote counts moving forward. Democrats have denied them the ability to pass the laws by fleeing the state to Washington, DC. It looks like former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) is making it possible for them to remain in the country’s Capitol a little longer.

On Thursday, July 22, O’Rourke announced his group Powered by People raised $600,000 to go toward a $1.5-million fundraising goal Democrats set for their trip. The money will help the lawmakers stay in DC until Governor Greg Abbott’s (R-TX) special session ends on August 6.

During a virtual conference, O’Rourke told the lawmakers they were going to “get the full amount.” The former representative has previously claimed the Texas Democrats are putting it “all on the line” to fight for voting rights.

O’Rourke might be funding the Democrats’ trip to DC to avoid during their job, but Abbott has said it’ll be for nothing. The governor warned the lawmakers they will be arrested when they return to the state. Also, he said he’s going to continue calling special sessions until the Left finishes their jobs.
